Peruvian Jungle

Hello!  This is the account of two restless folks deciding to take action against the monatony of the daily grind and travel abroad for the winter.  If you have been following our blog http://freedomwagen.blogspot.com/ thank you for continuing to follow us South!  We embarked in our Volkswagen Bus in August 2013 for a road trip with our 2 mutts around America and Canada.  For four months rambling around, we enjoyed taking the slow pace of backroads and no agenda. Unfortunately in America, December freeze limits drivable road conditions.  So we journey South to Peru and South East Asia to avoid frigid temps and expand our worldview.

It took over 48 hours of travel without sleep to arrive in Iquitos, partly due to our budget airline layovers and partly as a result of odd Peruvian flight times.  Sidenote, Spirit airlines international flight was rough.  Next time we will fork up a little more $ on such a long flight to be able to put our feet on the floor instead of our luggage and have more space from row to row (sitting back, I could touch my nose and the seat in front of me with one hand).

When we arrived at our destination in the Amazon Jungle we were welcomed with rain and balmy temps.  The week that followed was a formative experience.

The cool water, outdoor showers were intensely refreshing.  Little did I know, it would be months before a hot shower was the norm.
